If you have never experienced Reiki, you may be wondering what to expect. While your personal experience and outcome will be unique and based on what you need in this moment, the process of giving Reiki usually remains the same.
Before you arrive at my Reiki shack, I will clear the energy to give you the best experience. I do this in a couple of different ways including smudging and sound vibration. Smudging involves burning dried plants – I use sage and cedar – to create a cleansing smoke in all corners of the room. If I know a client is sensitive to smell, I may just use sound vibrations by using a singing bowl or cymbals.
When you arrive for your appointment, we’ll have a chat about Reiki and how the process can help balance and align your energy centres known as chakras. Most of what follows will be explained again at your first visit and I'm happy to answer any questions that come up before, during and after your Reiki session.
Once we are ready to begin, you will lay down on my Reiki table. You will be on your back, facing the ceiling and I will cover you with a light blanket. I will scan your body to see if there are any areas in need of extra energy work and will check your chakras by holding a pendulum above each of your chakras.
Then we are ready to begin. It's important to know that Reiki is not a massage. Reiki is meant to provide you with deep relaxation similar to meditating. During the Reiki session, I will hold my hands on different parts of your body, starting at your head and working my way down to your feet. If you feel uncomfortable with touch, just let me know and I will hold my hands in the same positions but keep them few inches away from your body. The same result will be achieved whether my hands touch you or not.
A full Reiki session usually lasts for about an hour. During this time, you may feel like chatting with me. Or you may feel like lying still. Some clients fall asleep during Reiki sessions. All options are perfectly fine and a reflection of what you need in that moment.
When we are done, you can lay on the Reiki table for as long as you want. It’s a good idea to take some time getting up after receiving Reiki as you may feel a little dizzy. It’s also a good idea to drink extra water after a Reiki session to help your energy flow more freely.
